Welcome to Medical Wellness Associates Welcome to Medical Wellness Associates, one of only a few Integrative Medical facilities in the U.S. Integrative Medicine combines conventional Western medicine with alternative or complementary treatments, such as acupuncture, chiropractic, prolotherapy, homeopathy, botanical medicine, etc.—all in an effort to treat the whole person. As our name suggests, we are dedicated to helping you achieve optimum health---not just the absence of disease, but a state of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness.
Medical Acupuncture Medical Acupuncture is the synthesis of Western Medical Science with Traditional Chinese Medicine practices.  Traditional Chinese medicine, which developed the practice of acupuncture, was an ancient system that recognized that disease was due to imbalances in the flow of Qi (pronounced “chee”) that moves through everyone.
Prolotherapy Prolotherapy, also known as Ligament-Tendon Reconstructive Therapy is a recognized orthopedic procedure used by highly trained physicians to reduce chronic pain.  Trauma from falls, athletic injuries, car accidents, childbirth, and occupation can weaken and injure joints and the ligaments that hold them in place.  The result is chronic, often disabling pain, loss of function, and arthritis. Prolotherapy and PRP are regenerative injection therapies (RIT) that induce ligament, cartilage, tendon, and disc re-growth and regeneration.
What are IV Nutritional Therapies? Our physicians may recommend IV (Intravenous) nutritional therapies as part of your health program, to facilitate your recovery.  Some patients have impaired digestion/absorption or because of their illness (heart disease, diabetes, chronic fatigue syndrome, cancer, allergies, etc.) require both oral and intravenous nutritional therapies.  IV therapies are also useful in nutritional detoxification programs, immune stimulation or, simply, because of depletion of your body stores.  Below is a short list of the unique IV therapies that are offered at MWA.(click on a topic for more information)

Medical Acupuncture

trigger_pointsMedical Acupuncture is the synthesis of Western Medical Science with Traditional Chinese Medicine practices.  Traditional Chinese medicine, which developed the practice of acupuncture, was an ancient system that recognized that disease was due to imbalances in the flow of Qi (pronounced “chee”) that moves through everyone.  Disruptions of Qi or life energy were recognized to be related to stress, poor diet, fatigue, and excessive heat or cold.  By evaluating the physical appearance of the patient, the symptoms, time of the year, color of the tongue, and quality of the pulse, traditional acupuncturists inserted hair-thin” needles into acupuncture “points”, located throughout the body, to balance the Qi and restore health.

Medical Acupuncture, as practiced by M.D. or D.O., has expanded on the traditional system by incorporating modern medical research into acupuncture practice.  The result to date has been the validation of over 40 conditions, now recognized by the World Health

Organization (WHO), for which acupuncture may be beneficial.

Those conditions include abdominal pain, addiction control, anxiety, arthritis, back pain, chronic fatigue, depression, fibromyalgia, migraine, hypertension, infertility, insomnia, menopausal symptoms, nausea, sciatica, smoking cessation, tinnitus and many others.

The result of this collaboration of East and West has been the development of Laser

Acupuncture, Electro-Acupuncture, Battlefield Acupuncture, Osteo-Puncture, and Acupuncture Energetics (developed by Joseph Helm, M.D., UCLA School of Medicine).  There continues to be ongoing research in Medical Acupuncture (Journal of Medical Acupuncture).

Martin Gallagher, M.D., D.C., is a graduate of the Helms Institute at UCLA Medical School and is a certified Medical Acupuncturist.

MWA Testimonials

The ordeal of Sheila Kay Laney, a Mechanicstown, Ohio, homemaker in her forties, began after the birth of her third son, Dillon, all ten pounds, three ounces of him, in June 1989.  The delivery was C-section.

Gary's problems started in 1977, when he was 22-years-old, with a slight pain in the heels of both feet.

In 1993, Dawn Beals, a 37-year-old leasing administrator from Somerset, Pennsylvania, came to our clinic. She had been diagnosed with MS in 1987 and suffered from chronic fatigue, a constant sore throat, bodily aches, and recurring ear and bladder infections.

"My health is rapidly declining," she told me. "I work full-time but that is a massive feat for me. I come home exhausted and sick, eat dinner, fall into bed and wake up the same way. All my social activities have ceased to exist."
